STARTALK Summer 2008 – Teaching Arabic – The Communicative Approach.

About this Course

The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive training via introduction to the theory and methodology of teaching Arabic as a foreign language.  This online workshop will equip participants as Arabic language teachers to enhance their teaching quality and performance in the classroom.  Participants will learn the newest methodology in teaching Arabic as a foreign language, while incorporating the National Standards of Arabic Language of the 21st Century, as developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).


What you will learn

  1. Demonstrate a professional growth in modern communicative methods, with particular reference to the National Standards of the 21st Century.
  2. Identify the learning needs of any group of Arabic language learners at various ages and proficiency levels, and to modify and update such a needs analysis in light of observation and testing.
  3. Write instructional objectives and prepare appropriate lesson plans.
  4. Discuss intelligently a repertoire of teaching and learning resources.
  5. This online class is also in preparation for those who qualify for the two weeks onsite intensive workshop at California State University, San Bernardino.
